Scams & Fraud : Free Offers

Sweepstakes and “Free” Prizes or Vacations

When you contact the company by phone to claim the supposed prize, the scam artist will tell you that you are required to pay a “processing fee” and pressure you to give out your credit card number. The scam artist can then use your card to spend thousands of dollars of unauthorized charges in your name. If you have any doubts about the offers validity, DO NOT give out any personal information, to include your credit card number, over the phone.

Free vacations also tend to require a fee to be paid; and if you do, there may be restrictions on where you can take your trip. You might be required to pay an additional handling charge to book your reservation, and if you complain, you may be offered an upgrade plan for still another additional fee.
